In our post below on Social media we commented on Sid’s view on the medium versus Seth over at Equidaily, via his blog. Seth’s line, “Facebook and Twitter have F-A-D written all over them” was indeed a quote from his web summary of the Social Media and Racing symposium at Saratoga Springs in October. However, if you do read the entire summary of the conference, Seth gives a caveat, “…… that it was certainly worthwhile for racetracks and racing organizations to pursue both avenues [twitter and facebook] since you can’t know what the next “big thing” is until it actually becomes the next “big thing,” and, as Silver had indicated earlier, it’s a relatively inexpensive way to reach out to potential new fans.”
So in reality, it appears the Equidaily man is onside with us geeks a little more than we gave him credit for. :)
We’ll be chatting more on this topic taking some specific references from other sports and businesses soon. As we spoke below, Ford is spending 25% on digital marketing, and others are following with similar interesting marketing plans.

I’m so glad that you wrote this–earlier today I wrote in an e-mail that I wondered what the context for the remark was…and here you have provided it.
Thanks.
