As an example of what can be achieved using YouTube API's, we built Harnesslink TV where people can browse through harness racing videos by racetrack or YouTube users:

If all tracks uploaded every race to YouTube, this could easily be implemented for every track in the world (which wouldn't really take too many man hours compared to the result achieved).

Bryan,

I had similar happen to me. One of my fave races and race calls of all time was Vic Stauffer at GP when Read the Footnotes won the FOY. I watched it on youtube every six months or so it seemed. Whenever someone said "what is your fave current race/race call" I would send them a link.

Then one day..... gone..... removed for copyright, or something to that effect.

I just checked and it is purged from youtube. Man I loved that race. Too bad I cant watch it again.

I agree with this argument whole heartedly. I don't post as often as I could on my own blog, but when I do, I often like to share a memorable race I've seen with others. It's been so frustrating to have a video from YouTube posted, only to have it pulled. The complainants don't seem to get it that blogging fans are more likely to broaden their base of potential new fans than they are to somehow hurt the business of those complaining. Partymanners has likely generated as much, if not more, interest than many of the track based sites have done. Sid Fernando's blog always has several excellent videos of racing worldwide that I know I would never have seen if not for the combination of his excellent site and the YouTube videos showing those races.

As this article notes, the videos are much better quality on YouTube, and allow for much broader dispersion than any other current system in place. I often watch races from the UK via At the Races, but when I spent some time in France last fall, I couldn't access them - they were not available in that country. Likewise, I cannot access any of the library of past races in France, because they are tied to a specific platform - Windows only - and I'm a Mac guy.

As time passes, I'm sure the racing world will catch up, but it always seems to be a few steps behind everything else - regardless of country, although some are a little quicker than others.
